ATI was Established by African States in 2001 and with Underwriting Trust Funds provided under bilateral treaties between the World Bank and its Member States, ATI provides a broad range of innovative and competitively priced insurance products and services customized to support African related investments and trade transactions. ATI has been designated as the Official Multilateral Africa's Investment and Credit Insurer by its African Member States.

ATI is registered as an international organization with the United Nations under Article 102 of the United Nations Charter.
