SENIOR COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER – JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of, and reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Senior Communications Officer’s key duties and responsibilities will be as below:
- Create and implement an annual communication strategy to support and operationalize ATI’s strategic objectives;
- Manage the production and distribution of reports, presentations, press releases and announcements produced by ATI and provide hands-on leadership and oversight of an internal team and external providers that covers all aspects of communications;
- Write and edit press releases, in-house newsletters, presentations, speeches, articles, promotional material and annual reports;
- Produce ATI’s annual report, which includes coordinating input from management and all stake-holders and production;
- Work with HR to create an internal communications plan that will incorporate targeted messaging to help foster an environment of transparency and unity;
- Plan and implement PR campaigns;
- Provide support in managing and establishing partnerships with donors, multilaterals and other potential stakeholders;
- Produce quarterly reports for the Board of Directors, Half-year financial reports for ATI’s website and manage distribution to key stakeholders;
- Manage the implementation of ATI’s brand by ensuring brand consistency across all collateral;
- Manage ATI’s website and all social media pages including content production;
- Provide advisory services to management on topics including reputational/brand management, crisis communications and media training;
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with domestic and international newspapers, magazines, radio and television media, expand the media database and reach to include contacts at top-tier international media outlets and support senior staff in the planning of media briefs and stakeholders management;
- Answer enquiries from individuals, journalists and other organisations and Act as the spokesperson when required;
- Work with the Underwriting and relevant departments in reviewing, updating, and producing marketing brochures, handouts, and multimedia and digital products;
- Manage organization of special events, such as ATI’s annual international Roundtable, AGM-related activities, office launches, workshops, press conferences and exhibitions.
- Plan and implement effective people management initiatives including:
✔ Identifying staffing and hiring needs and managing recruitment and on boarding of staff to fill identified needs;
✔ Monitoring workflow, volume of work deliverables and the delivery of work of direct reports;
✔ Assisting team members in outlining their professional development goals and identifying any need for and monitoring “on the job training”; mentoring and coaching team members;
✔ Ensuring the efficient and fair assignment of project and departmental work to team;
✔ Coordinating with other managers on assignments and to obtain timely performance feedback; and
✔ Providing ongoing informal and formal feedback to direct reports and ensuring direct reports who are primary supervisors provide similar feedback to those they supervise.
Role Specifications:
- A Master’s degree in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations or related field
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations or related field
- Professional qualification in Communications, Marketing or Public Relations
- A minimum ten (10) years of relevant full time professional experience in public relations and communications work
- Excellent Bi-Lingual communication skills in both French and English with French as the native language.
- Knowledge of and experience in public relations and communications;
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex issues into clearly written articles, speeches and press releases;
- Demonstrated skills in creating and implementing communications strategies in large institutions of corporations;
- Experience in designing and implementing short, long-term strategic marketing and/or PR plans;
- Business Judgment and analytical decision making – able to gather information, assess risk, consider impact and articulate benefits of decisions;
- Demonstrated ability in delivering impactful Communication, able to share and articulate ideas verbally and written in a compelling manner in order to effect change and influence decision-makers;
- Good working knowledge on annual business planning and budgeting process;
- Excellent communication (oral, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment;
- Strong people management skills; and
